Creating and Sharing Inspiring Projects

North Face

Hi I'm Andy!

Since completing The Last European Tour, I have blogged, worked for a start-up, continued my career in financial services consulting and have founded a couple of social enterprises. I’m using this site as a space to share and keep track of my weird and wonderful adventures. I love social enterprise, I’m passionate about People & Planet (my European Tour was carbon neutral!) and generally love a good project. Get in touch if you have an inspiring idea and I’ll do my best to help make it a reality.

In 2018, I bought a van and embarked on the Last European Tour. Making the most of our now relinquished right to freedom of movement in the EU, I visited 27 different countries, made a statement and rescued a stray dog along the way.

PROJECTS PAST & PRESENT

Gifts that keep on giving

Overview: During the pandemic, I set up The Good Hamper Company to raise money for the NHS Charities Together Campaign, local homeless charities and front-line healthcare workers.

Result: Sold thousands of hampers and donated £885 + hundreds of hampers (worth thousands of pounds) to the NHS Charities together campaign, The White Chapel Mission (London), St Petrocs (Exeter) and Barts Hospital (London). GHC is now closed but I’m thinking about firing it up again to help Ukrainian refugees.

Supporting Dogs in Need

Overview: After rescuing a stray dog while travelling through Greece on the Last European Tour, I set up Betty’s Treat Club to raise money for Greek Animal Rescue.

Result: Like The Good Hamper Co, Betty’s had hundreds of monthly subscribers, raised hundreds of pounds for Greek Animal Rescue’s wild fire campaign and donated 100’s of kgs of food to the charity each month while it operated. Like GHC, operations are currently paused as the business was not scalable in its current form.

Finding and sharing the best places to sip a cold one

Overview: Hear me out, this one is fairly rogue. I’ve got a weird obsession with hunting down the best pubs / bars / restaurants with amazing backdrops and reviewing them based on: a) Backdrop b) Atmosphere and c) Seating

If I go on holiday or take Katy on a date, 9 times out of 10 I’ll have done a load of research to find somewhere with an epic view to have a pint. I’ve been recording these on my phone since early 2016 and have recently decided to surface the best of the best. Please get in touch and share you fav locations – if I could pin down one ‘passion‘ this would be it (along with the WW2 history and plate tectonics of course).

Result: Some early reviews published, enjoying using my drone and camera again.

Grandma and Grandson working together to share a lifetime of poetry

Overview: I discovered my Grandma (Jean!) has been privately writing poetry since she was a child. Working together, we have dug up and published the best of the best on her own personal blog.

Result: I built her blog and set up an email subscription stack so she could publish weekly to her subscribers. She has since published a small poetry book and sold copies to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance.

The original rogue project. 35,000 km, 27 countries, 2 words.

Overview: To mark our last summer in the EU, I embraced the concept of free movement and embarked on a farewell tour.

I followed a carefully constructed route, visiting 27 of mainland Europe’s countries whilst sharing the best of what they had to offer along the way. My van and I stuck diligently to this route, ensuring we left a clear message daubed over the continent: Stop Brexit

The journey, which took weeks of planning, covered approximately 35,000 km, 27 countries (26 of which are EU Member States) and involved over 335 driving hours. I created my work of art live using a location tracking app

Result: One viral trip, one rescued dog, one (unofficial) world record for the largest piece of GPS art.
