Finishing the Letter X – Croatia

The Final Leg

With Vienna ticked off, there was only 516 km to go until we reached our objective in Croatia. The small town of Senj would be our finishing line for the letter ‘X’!

The route to Senj

We pulled into a lay by, grabbed a few hours sleep, then embarked on the final leg. The drive took us through Slovenia and across the Croatian border. Once past Zagreb, I turned the van west and we bee-lined for the coast. As we approached the coast, a huge mountain range reared up before us. We took The Josephina – a historic road that crosses the Dinaric Alps via the Vratnik pass. The views were absolutely stunning.

On descending the other side, we popped into the first supermarket we could find and grabbed some cold beers. We then hunted for a spot to set up camp on the outskirts of Senj. With our research and navigation skills honed to a T, it wasn’t long before we found the perfect place. Katy and I were then free to kick back with a cold one and reflect on our journey so far.

Mission Accomplished

After 3036 km of driving and escapades in Budapest, Prague, Berlin and Vienna, we could finally celebrate. The X was complete.
